Tubes
These tubes are a direct response to what I believe is a casing vent for a pipeline or something like that located on the northwest-ish part of the property. I saw this over the winter and had an immediate response to the form itself, and because while a farmer I owned a gas well and had to maintain it myself. I’ve done a lot of weird PVC projects standing in a water-filled hole on a cold day, so it’s interesting to think about this material in a new way. The PVC pipes used came from the site and I’ve recycled them here into sculptures. I’ve placed them around the site in a way that speaks to me as I walk around and responds to how the trees are growing, the wind is blowing and how I can see the different works from different vantage points. If you look around, you will see these types of vents all over the place. They have different uses, but they create unexpected visual pauses often in the most unexpected places. I’ve attached QR codes to them to reference my use and reuse of machine-readable codes. I’ve also attached the number 765 to all of these as my youngest child Rú visited Please Don’t Mow with me and climbed all over the pile of pipes. 765 is his favorite famous steam train.
